About Vagabond
Following the catastrophic Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, young Takezo Shinmen — later known as Musashi Miyamoto — flees the battlefield alongside his friend Matahachi. Driven by a burning obsession to become “invincible under the heavens”, Takezo begins a violent and turbulent journey across feudal Japan.
His path crosses legendary warriors, Zen masters, and fierce rivals — most notably Sasaki Kojiro, the brilliant deaf-mute swordsman destined to become his greatest challenge. As Musashi’s skill evolves, so does his understanding that true strength comes not from defeating others, but from mastering himself.
Takehiko Inoue’s breathtaking brushwork art, profound philosophical themes about life, death, and purpose, and deeply human characters set Vagabond apart from any other manga. If you enjoy Berserk, Vinland Saga, or Kingdom, Vagabond is essential reading.
